Country Teams
Last updated August 14th, 2014NEW! Outreach opportunity: To share your story click here.
ICWIP is based on a country representation structure. You must be a member of your Country Team in order to attend the conference. Team Leaders in each country are the main point of contact. The presence of representatives from small countries, island states and developing countries is particularly sought after.
Since the conference is hosted in Canada, the Canadian Country Team can include more than 5 members. If you are interested in being part of the Canadian Country Team please contact Dr. Li-Hong Xu: lxu@unb.ca.
A list of Country Team Leaders is available here.
Country Team Leaders and Team Members: Please create your individual accounts using the login form on the right hand side or bottom of this page.
Why are there Country Teams?
It is the experience of the Working Group that changes within a country often occur
as the result of a local Working Group, a core coordinating team, or a group of
dedicated individuals. ICWIP encourages the formation and interaction of these groups
by organising the Conference on the basis of Country representation by teams.
The Leader of this team is the point of contact for the IUPAP Working Group in
encouraging global development. The Leaders responsibilities are to:
- form and co-ordinate the team,
- ensure submission of a poster and paper for the proceedings of the conference
describing changes in their country affecting women in physics over the last 3 years,
and
- review their country's scientific abstracts.
If I am not a Country Team member, can I still attend?
In view of the goals above, we do ask you to contact your Country Team Leader (list available here), who will form the Country Team. IUPAP Working Group members, Invited plenary speakers, invited Workshop speakers and Presidents of Physical Societies do not have to be members of country teams.
Country Team Leader List
You will first need to contact your country leader. For contact details of country team leaders click here. Country Leaders are appointed by the IUPAP Working group Chair, contacted through the same site.
Why are there rules and guidelines for Country Teams?
There are two main reasons:
1. Balance in representation: ICWIP seeks global representation in terms of the call
for Universality in Science (www.icsu.org). This is a conference which builds
resolutions, and seeks action on them across the world.
2. Allocating funds: We try to support a significant number of delegates. Finding
sponsorship and allocating travel grants for a large fraction of delegates is a big
task.
Country Team rules and guidelines
The size of the team: 5 is the advised maximum number of people in a Country Team, and if the team is to be larger, the International Organising Committee (IOC) should be consulted.
Since the conference is hosted in Canada, the Canadian Country Team can include more than 5 members. If you are interested in being part of the Canadian Country Team please contact Dr. Li-Hong Xu: lxu@unb.ca.
- For other countries, if there are to be more than 5 members, the country is asked
to sponsor two participants from a developing country for each additional Country Team
member.
- Up to 5 people for each country may be sponsored through ICWIP funding;
this depends on the country and how much sponsorship is raised. Exceptions should be
discussed with the Travel Grant Coordinator through the IOC.
- ICWIP encourages development, and diversity. Teams with at least one man and/or
at least one student will be given preference when Travel Grants are sought.
- IUPAP Working Group members, Invited plenary speakers, invited Workshop speakers and
Presidents of Physical Societies do not have to be members of country teams.
